Overcoming Binge Eating Disorder (BED)

Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is currently one of the most common eating disorders in the world and can cause serious health problems along with negative psychological and social problems. (BED) is characterized by extreme recurring episodes of binge eating similar to that of bulimia nervosa. It is common for patients of (BED) to have little to no self control over their eating.

Eating small amounts of nutritional food throughout the day rather than excessive amounts all at once is an easy and effective way of reducing your binge eating habits. If you eat small amounts of nutritional food throughout the day your desire to binge eat junk food all at once will go away. An easy way to reduce your cravings is to stop buying junk food. Work to eliminate all foods you normally binge on so that when you have the urge to binge you won’t have access to the food you want. Nutritional food will fill you up more and you won’t have the same desire to binge on it as you do with junk food, for this reason, junk food should be avoided as much as possible. If junk food isn’t readily available to you, you won’t be able to binge on it no matter how strong your desire for it is.

Keeping yourself distracted is an easy way to avoid binge eating. Rather than eating when you are bored find a hobby to cure your boredom. Try exercising or spending time with friends. What you are doing doesn’t really matter as long as it gives you something to do when you’re bored other than eat. Something that also helps is chewing gum. If you have been suffering from Binge Eating Disorder for a long time your mouth may need something to do as it has become so used to eating. Chewing on gum can help you with this problem.

Educating yourself on why people Binge Eat is a crucial part to overcoming your Binge Eating habits. Learning the reasons behind your Binge Eating addiction can help you overcome it. The first thing you need to know is that the reason you are addicted to certain meals is typically because they aren’t very nutritious. Your body is forced to eat massive amounts of a meal because the meal isn’t nutritional. In order to obtain the amount of nutrients you require you have to eat a lot because you get so little nutrients from one serving of junk food. If you start eating nutritious meals you will obtain all the nutrients you need from a smaller amount.

Coming to the realization that removing the substances that cause the addiction will rid you of the cravings is key. The only reason you have cravings to binge eat is because of the certain junk foods you are eating, Once you remove all of these foods you won’t have any of these cravings.

To overcome (BED) you need to realize that the only reason diets have not worked for you in the past is because they usually aren’t achievable. Most people see diets as a way to lose weight by eating less and starving themselves, this is not achievable because your body will not allow itself to starve. Your body needs nutrients! When on a diet you should simply eat nutritious food while avoiding junk food. You will get the same amount of nutrients that you require to fill you up and keep you from being hungry. However, you will be getting them from nutrient packed food and you won’t need to eat as much.

Remember to seek medical help! Binge Eating Disorder is a serious eating disorder that can be very consequential to ones health if its not handled correctly. Talk to your doctor or any medical professional about your circumstances so you can get a better understanding of your specific circumstances. No ones experience is exactly the same and there may be specific ways that will only help you that a professional can help you with.
